The horror I feel like was still there, or less horror but still a lot of creepy sections. The soundtrack felt like your run-of-the-mill sci fi action sountrack, lost that distinct just industrial noises soundtrack of DS1 and 2. It also set up a 4th game in the series (which we're probably never gonna get) pretty nicely. Speaking of the DLC, it felt more like Dead Space in everything but it really feels like a part of the game that was cut off and put behind a paywall to get the full experience. Also that ending was so underwhelming, felt like it was missing another chunk of the game, which it sure did but was sold as DLC. The villain was.? There was a villain? It felt like they had a bunch of lore and wrote the laziest way to introduce it in the series. He was always the one looking for the most realistic solution and felt like he was the only one all in on the idea to save the universe with nothing standing in his way. The new characters are forgettable at best, except for my boy Carver who felt like the most interesting of the bunch even though he always played second fiddle to Isaac. Isaac and Ellie feel like different characters and they switch their personalities every 2 seconds like they have bipolar or something. I still don't *fully* understand what happened in Dead Space 3, the writing was also pretty sub-par. The story was so cliche yet so contrived at the same time. Dead Space 3's levels felt like 3 long levels instead of 19 different feeling ones. ![]() The latter levels definitely improved in this department with Chapters like The City but except for those all over chapters looked and felt the same, whereas in Dead Space 1 and 2 the levels stick with you, The School, The Ishimura in Dead Space 2, The Medbay. Same winter open landscape, same industrial looking warehouse, same metro tunnels for the side missions. The skybox was always staggering, and there were a lot of really cool screenshot worthy settings, but a lot of the environment feels like it got recycled. Still shooting felt good, the weapon variety was great, and the aspect of getting to craft your own weapons is probably the greatest thing this game brings to the table. Getting hoarded by necromorphs was as intense as always, especially in small claustrophobic spaces but still I don't think the Dead Space universe is made for action oriented gameplay rather than the more survival horror focused aspect of the previous 2 games. Chopping off the limbs doesn't seem as big of a priority since you get a shitton of ammo and you can build some absolutely disgustingly overpowered weapons that shred through anything in a matter of seconds. Does it really feel like Dead Space though? I wouldn't say so. Before heading into the game we knew it would be more action focused so that wasn't unexpected and it wasn't the underwhelming part of the game.įirst off, the gameplay is the best it's ever been for sure. The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games ListĪfter finishing Dead Space 2, I've been slowly chipping away at Dead Space 3 with a buddy in co-op, and the game and the experience got progressively worse as we went through the game.
